Our Library

The Elderslie High School library aims to be the heart of our school community, creating a vibrant learning environment and safe space which fosters the creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and communication skills of its students and staff to empower them to be their best selves.

Resources

Graphic novels and manga: These are our most popular resources and fly off the shelves, so get in quick!

Picture books: This varied collection can assist students studying Child Studies and Art, as well as providing students an assortment of rich related texts for their English course.

Fiction novels: We have thousands of fiction books in a variety of genres such as Young Adult, historical, action, adventure, science fiction and fantasy, as well as classic stories by renowned authors such as Bram Stoker, the Bronte sisters, Jane Austen and Charles Dickens.

Non-fiction texts: We have a diverse range of study guides to assist our students in their Stage 6 courses, as well as a large number of non-fiction books to help students of all years complete their assessment tasks to the best of their ability.

Autobiography and biography: Excellent for students who prefer real life tales about wonderful people and their amazing achievements.

Quick Reads: Located near the borrowing desk, these short books are easy to read and ideal for students looking for something quick to read.

Magazines: Perfect for students who prefer shorter, more accessible texts to read in DEAR. We have magazines for history buffs, science folk, sports fans and more!

Wheelers ePlatform: We have thousands of free eBooks for you to borrow in a variety of genres. You can access our virtual library via your browser or by downloading the ePlatform app. New books are added every month so you’ll always find something to suit your fancy.

Clickview: This subscription allows us to access thousands of educational videos and popular films for free in your internet browser. Sign in using your school email to start watching!

Oliver Catalogue: You can search for resources and reserve them by accessing the My School Library (Oliver) Catalogue via your Student Portals.

Services

Quiet Space: Located on the mezzanine, this area is designed for individuals, pairs or groups of three seeking a quiet, peaceful area to study, read, game or relax.

Oliver Library Catalogue: Search our extensive range from the comfort of your own home. Sign in to your Student Portal or click here to access Oliver and begin searching our library catalogue.

Laptops: Available to borrow during lunch every day except Wednesday.

Printing and photocopying: You can print from one of our available desktop or laptop computers. All you need is your school email or Student ID card to get started. Please ensure that you are organised because printing is in extremely high demand during our busy assessment periods.

Welfare and Careers: Located upstairs in the library.

Senior study area: Located upstairs in the library.

Activities

Games: We have games such as chess, Uno, puzzles and other board games to keep you and your friends occupied during your breaks.

Book displays: Check out our ever-changing range of displays themed around various community and international events.

Premier’s Reading Challenge: Sign up and read 20 books from the approved PRC list by August to improve your vocabulary, literacy and empathy! High school students can choose from the 5-6, 7-9, and 9+ booklists available here.

Book Reviews: Leave a review of a recently read book!

Book Week: Held in Term 3, this is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our love of reading! We have loads of break activities such as author talks, and top it off with our popular Cosplay Competition!
