Support unit

Elderslie High School Support Unit caters for students with Autism.  The unit consists of three classes with trained Special Needs Educators and School Learning Support Officers. The classes offer small student to teacher ratio and cater for needs specific to Autism Spectrum Disorder.

The delivery of curriculum is modified to suit individual student education plans and learning goals.  The delivery of core subjects occurs in the Support Unit with home teachers.  The classes access a variety of subjects outside of the unit in a supportive environment. Individual students are offered integration opportunities when required.

There is a strong emphasis on post schooling options for students in the senior years, coupled with a comprehensive work experience program. All students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of community access and travel training programs.

We pride ourselves on delivering student focussed learning and enjoy a strong communication system between home and school.

Students can achieve a ROSA and HSC completing a Life Skills Program of study. Students are offered a variety of subjects to study including Mathematics, English, Science, PDHPE, Integrated Studies, Design and Technology, LOTE, Music, Agriculture and Visual Arts.

Our students learning and social needs are catered for through a variety of different programs including;

·         Individual Learning Plans

·         Individual Transition Plans (Years 10-12)

·         Social Skills Programs

·         Work experience programs (Years 10-12)

·         TAFE courses

·         Travel training

·         SLES program (NDIS participants only)

Sport benefits everyone in the community, regardless of ability. Inclusion of people with disability is about providing access to a range of quality opportunities and options. Opportunities for students with disabilities to get involved in sports are available at various levels throughout the school sport structure, from participation to elite.
